BlackBerry may consider launching another Android smartphone in 2016
BlackBerry is considering to launch a second Android smartphone next year.
According to Bloomberg, BlackBerry CEO John Chen revealed during an interview that there are plans for a second Android smartphone although it will depend on the success of the Priv. Based on his current assessment, it seems that the Priv is well-received and there is a good chance for the company to deliver a mid-range Android smartphone in 2016.
BlackBerry CEO John Chen - "Depends on the Priv. If the Priv is well received in the market and looks like it is. There's a good chance [...], we will still focus on the high-end probably closer to mid-range coming out in 2016."
Chen did not specify a time frame for the launch of the second Android smartphone although he added that the Priv will be available in 31 more markets in the next three months. The Priv, BlackBerry's first Android smartphone, is available now at the local telcos and authorized retailers with a retail price of S$1,098 without line contract.
