Batteries go from 0 to 80% in 35 minutes with Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0
As battery capacities in mobile devices get bigger, tech companies are developing technologies to speed up the charging process. Qualcomm has been one of the leading companies in this area with its Quick Charge, its fast charging technology for devices which are powered by the Snapdragon processors.
Today, Qualcomm announced its next generation fast charging technology, Quick Charge 3.0 which will be available in the Snapdragon 820 processor and mobile devices starting next year. Touted as the first of its kind to use Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV), the new algorithm gives mobile devices the ability to assess the power level for optimum power transfer.
Having said that, Quick Charge 3.0 enables you to charge up a flat battery from zero to 80% in about 35 minutes. When compared to the current Quick Charge 2.0, Qualcomm states that it is up to 38% more efficient, reducing power dissipation by up to 45%, and boasts extra features to protect battery cycle life.
Qualcomm states that Quick Charge 3.0 will be featured as an option on select Snapdragon processors such as the Snapdragon 820, 620, 618, 617 and 430. It is expected to start appearing in consumer devices from next year.
