Back and Better Than Ever: The Canon PowerShot S95

With a new HS System, High Dynamic Range Mode and HD Movie recording capabilities, the PowerShot S95 reaffirms its position as an unparalleled compact camera

Singapore, 26 August 2010 – Canon today unveils the successor to the highly popular and celebrated S90: the exceptional PowerShot S95. In 2009, the PowerShot S90 featured a 28mm wide angle lens and manual control ring was one of the most highly-anticipated cameras of the year. This year, building on the overwhelming success of the S90, the PowerShot S95 looks set to raise the bar even higher to create an unmatched photography experience. With the new HS System technology, a new High Dynamic Range mode, Hybrid Image Stabiliser (IS) function and High Definition (HD) movie recording capabilities, the PowerShot S95 will be the camera for 2010.

“Image quality has always been a top priority at Canon. With each new generation of PowerShot cameras, we look to incorporate the latest technologies that will enhance every photographer’s experience.” said Andrew Koh, Director and General Manager of the Consumer Imaging and Information Division, Canon Singapore. “The PowerShot S95 includes new advanced features such as Canon’s newly developed Hybrid IS technology and High Dynamic Range mode which will redefine and surpass existing standards of photography.”

Canon’s Newest HS System – For Sharp and Vivid Colours in any condition

At the heart of Canon’s new PowerShot S95 is the revolutionary HS System technology. The new HS System combines Canon’s DIGIC 4 imaging processor with a 10.0 Megapixel, high-sensitivity CCD sensor to deliver high quality images with low noise, even in challenging lighting conditions.

The PowerShot S95’s f/2.0 lens also permits more light to reach the sensor, allowing higher shutter speeds to be used and reducing the effects of camera shake. This combination of Canon’s HS System and the bright f/2.0 lens makes flash-free photography possible in more situations than ever before, allowing for scenes to be captured in their natural state.

The Power behind the Camera: Delving into the PowerShot S95

Don’t be fooled by its petite and diminutive size. Beneath the all-new PowerShot S95’s compact form lies a f/2.0, 28mm wide-angle lens. Together with Canon’s Optical Image Stabiliser (IS) technology, photographers will no longer face challenges zooming in. Not only does the 3.8x optical zoom enable users to get closer to the action, it also minimises the blurriness that is often associated with longer exposures in low-light conditions.

The PowerShot S95 has been enhanced with 720p High Definiton (HD) video capability so that users can shoot and record high quality footage without any hassle. For macro-photography enthusiasts, the PowerShot S95 is Canon’s first-ever PowerShot model to come equipped with the highly advanced Hybrid IS function that reduces angular and shift camera shakes for greater ease and peace-of-mind when taking close-up shots.

To track subjects that are in motion, the PowerShot S95’s new Tracking AF mode offers the ability to track and focus on moving subjects while producing the sharpest and clearest images.

Similar to its predecessor, the PowerShot S95 comes with a professional-style control ring for intuitive manual control that, when rotated, facilitates the quick adjustment of a variety of settings, including ISO speeds, Aspect Ratio, Contrast as well as Focusing.

Capture natural beauty with High Dynamic Range (HDR)

With the new HS System technology and High Dynamic Range mode, the PowerShot S95 allows the capture of high contrast scenes that are closer to how they appear to the human eye.

Exceeding the limitations of conventional cameras, the PowerShot S95 takes three different exposures of the same scene before analysing and combining shots to create a single image in-camera. The result is an image that captures highlight and shadow detail closer to how the photographer sees it.

Pricing and availability

The new Canon PowerShot S95 is now available at all authorised Canon dealers at the recommended retail price of S$669.
