ASUS Xonar Phoebus Sound Card Set Projects 'Cone of Clarity'

Recall the “Cone of Silence” from the Get Smart series? Well the new Xonar Phoebus gaming sound card’s dedicated control box helps project an area of clarity with its dual noise cancelling microphone arrays that can reduce ambient noise by up to 50%. Dubbed ROG Command Technology, it aims to boost in-game voice clarity. ASUS claims that this technology works even if your headset has noise cancelling technology built-in. This is because the dedicated control box helps suppress ambient noise in the vicinity when ROG Command is enabled and works along with the headset’s own microphone to analyze audio captured.

ASUS surveyed gamers and found the following as the 3 top sources of noise annoyance from their gaming sessions. This led to the development of ROG Command to improve voice clarity in games and thus, provide the extra advantage to these gamers.

ASUS demoed the ROG Command technology briefly at Computex. The function is very straightforward to activate as there’s only one option in the ROG Command section of the audio utility/driver software. Once enabled, voice clarity greatly improved for the better. The quality might vary because of the noise cancelling algorithms at work, but at least you will be rid of noisy ambience to a great degree to hear your opponents/team mates clearly.

The ROG Commend function on the Xonar Phoebus is just one of the highlight features of this new card among high sound quality (118dV SNR clarity), built-in headphone amplifier, external control box for volume tuning, new audio utility center, Dolby Home Theater V4 support and more. More information of the sound card can be found here.
