ASUS unveils four ZenFone 4 smartphones

ASUS officially announced the new ZenFone 4 family with the debut of four models. The Taiwanese company said that the ZenFone 4 is the first family of smartphones to completely feature dual cameras (be it on the rear or front), which offers customers the ability to capture the best photos in any scenario. Leading the pack is the flagship model, the ZenFone 4 Pro followed by the ZenFone 4, ZenFone 4 Selfie and ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro. That's a lot of models, so let's tear through them one by one:-
 

ZenFone 4 Pro

The ZenFone 4 Pro sports a 5.5-inch Full-HD AMOLED display with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass on the front and back. Running under the hood is Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 mobile platform with 6GB RAM, a 3,600mAh battery, Android 7.1 and ZenUI 4.0.

Its dual-camera setup on the rear consist of a primary camera made up of a 12MP Sony IMX362 image sensor (1/2.55-inch sensor size, 1.4μm pixel size) with f/1.7 aperture, Dual-Pixel PDAF, 4-axis, 4-stop OIS, laser and continuous autofocus, PixelMaster 4.0 camera modes, and a secondary camera made up of a 16MP Sony IMX351 image sensor which offers 2X optical zoom. The front-facing camera consists of an 8MP Sony IMX319 image sensor with f/1.9 aperture, 87.4° field of view and 1.4μm pixel size.

Other specs include a fingerprint sensor, 4K video recording at 30fps, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB Type-C 2.0, a hybrid SIM and memory card slot (Slot 1 accommodates one nano-SIM while Slot 2 can accommodate either another nano-SIM or a microSD card), 128GB internal storage space and dual speakers.

The ZenFone 4 comes with a 5.5-inch Full-HD Super IPS+ display, Android 7.0 with ZenUI 4.0, USB Type-C 3.1, dual speakers, a 3,300mAh battery and a hybrid SIM and memory card slot. The dual-camera setup on the rear is similar to the ZenFone 4 Pro except that the primary camera has a smaller aperture of f/1.8 and the secondary camera only offers 120° field of view. It also has an 8MP front-facing camera with a smaller f/2.0 aperture and 84° field of view. It is available in two options: 

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 or 630 mobile platform 
  • 6GB RAM with 64GB internal storage space or 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage option 

 

ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro

Similar to the ZenFone 4 Pro, the ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro has a 5.5-inch Full-HD AMOLED display. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 mobile platform, up to 4GB RAM, a 3,000mAh battery, Android 7.0 and ZenUI 4.0. It has a dual-camera setup on the front which consists of:

  • Main selfie camera - Sony IMX362 12MP Dual Pixel image sensor, 1/2.55-inch large sensor size, 1.4 µm large pixel size, f/1.8 aperture, 4K video recording, ASUS SuperPixel Engine 
  • Secondary selfie camera - 120° super wide-angle camera

The single camera module on the rear is a 16MP Sony image sensor with phase-detection autofocus and 4K video recording at 30fps. Other specs include Bluetooth 4.2, micro-USB 2.0, a fingerprint sensor, 64GB storage space and dual SIM dual standby support. 

 

ZenFone 4 Selfie

The ZenFone 4 Selfie has a 5.5-inch IPS display, a Qualcomm Snadragon 430 mobile platform with 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage space, triple slots for 2 nano-SIM cards and 1 microSD memory card. The dual-camera setup on the front includes:

  • Primary selfie camera - 20MP, f/2.0 aperture and ASUS Selfie Master technology 
  • Secondary selfie camera - 120° super wide-angle camera

The rear camera is a 16MP image sensor with LED real tone flash and phase-detection autofocus. Video recording is limited to 1080p at 30fps. Other specs include micro-USB 2.0, Bluetooth 4.0, a fingerprint sensor and a 3,000mAh battery.

The ASUS ZenFone 4 family will be launched first in Asia followed by a rollout to other global markets. No word yet on local price and availability. We do know it will come to Singapore and we'll be sure to update the article when we get wind of more details.
