Singapore ― enabling users to bypass Internet surfing restrictions, remotely access IT devices in their houses, build Internet game server sites at home and enjoy location-restricted Internet services, Asus black diamond wireless routers feature VPN server on 3 models: RT-AC66U, RT-N66U, and RT-N16 in new firmware, Asus WRT.

Bypass Internet surfing policy when needed

Some companies prevent their employees from using certain Internet applications during office hours, such as MSN, Skype, Facebook or Twitter. Others might block particular websites such as sports, stock, blogs or forums. With VPN server in Asus WRT, users can bypass this policy if the situation calls for it.

Moreover, certain types of websites are banned in some countries with strict Internet censorship. When users of Asus WRT travel to these countries and wish to surf the censored websites, all they have to do is to enable VPN server at home in advance and then the websites will no longer be banned.

Remotely access IT devices in your house

When users have multiple IT gadgets at home, such as NAS, PC, NB, setup box or surveillance device to record videos, it takes a professional to link all these devices together. With VPN server in Asus WRT, all the user needs to do is to set up user name and password. Then these devices will be linked in the same network so that users can remotely access them just as they’re doing it at home.

Build an Internet game server site at home

To join the popular online games, gamers usually have a few options: (a) pay to connect to official server sites, (b) connect to free gaming sites and risk congestion during peak hours, and (c) invite friends home or to dormitory to the same LAN (Local Area Network).

With VPN server, users can invite their friends to dial to their VPN server at home so that they can enjoy location-free and free-of-charge game. In other words, users of VPN server in Asus WRT can build their own game server sites and be free from congestion during peak hours, registration fee and the trouble of travelling to the same place to play.

Enjoy location-restricted Internet service

Certain types of network services, such as iTunes music store and Netflix, are location-restricted. When users go abroad, these services cannot be accessed. To enjoy them, users just need to set up a VPN server at home with Asus router equipped with Asus WRT. Then they are free to use these services no matter where they are.

Available choices

So far Asus has 3 models supporting VPN server: RT-AC66U, RT-N66U, and RT-N16. And in second half of 2012, there will be more models implementing it too. Depending on users' preference and usage environments, they can choose the most appropriate model for themselves.
