ASUS PadFone Launches with Optional PadFone Station, Station Dock
Nine months after it made a brief appearance at Computex Taipei, the ASUS PadFone is now officially launched at MWC 2012.
The PadFone is an Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) smartphone that harnesses the power of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 8260A dual-core CPU (1.5GHz). In front, the PadFone flaunts a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with 960 x 540 screen resolution and is layered with a Gorilla Glass panel. It touts a full HD (1080p) video recording 8-megapixel camera coupled with a VGA type in front. ASUS offers the PadFone in three variants according to storage (16GB, 32GB, and 64GB). A 1520mAh lithium ion battery powers the PadFone.
The most relevant yet optional partner of the PadFone is the PadFone Station. It is a 10.1-inch touchscreen display panel (1280 x 800) that has a slot designed to host the PadFone. Once the PadFone is docked with the PadFone Station, the combination of the two effectively results in a new mobile device, a tablet. The PadFone Station correctly projects the UI of the PadFone with the help of ASUS’ Dynamic Display technology.
The magic doesn’t stop there. Attach the optional keyboard-equipped Station Dock to the PadFone Station and what you will get is an Android-based notebook.
ASUS targets to ship the PadFone in April.
