Reuters: ASUS not ruling out possibility of acquiring HTC

ASUS is generating profits off the success of its ZenFone series.

BlackBerry is not the only phone maker that is being considered for an acquisition as ASUS has expressed interest to acquire HTC.

According to Reuters, ASUS Chief Financial Officer David Chang revealed that Chairman Johnny Shih discussed about a possible acquisition of HTC during the annual general meeting. However, Chang cautions that the chances of a takeover is actually very low.

Reuters - "Our chairman has chatted about the topic internally," said Chang. "Still, the chances of an actual takeover are not big as Asustek is a company that has depended on organic growth."

Although both companies are based in Taiwan, ASUS and HTC are on the extreme ends of the spectrum. ASUS reportedly managed to generate profits from its handset business last May and the momentum is expected to grow with the recent launch of new mobile devices at Computex 2015. On the other hand, HTC is struggling to stay afloat with a forecast of net loss in Q2 this year.
