ASUS has announced its Windows 8-ready AMD chipset motherboards. Boasting of exclusive features that will enhance users' experience with the new exciting operating system from Microsoft, these new and updated boards will appeal to a wide range of system builders and end-users!
The boards featuring this chipset are the ASUS M5A99FX Pro R2.0, Sabertooth 990FX R2 (TUF Series) and the ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z (ROG Series). These boards support the AM3+ processors and dual-channel overclocked DDR3 memory modules up to a maximum capacity of 32GB. In order to meet the needs of the user for faster boot-up times, ASUS has implemented its Fast Boot and claimed that Windows 8 boot-up time has been reduced to a mere two seconds.
The company has also introduced ASUS Boot Setting that allows the user to customize the start-up options of this system, this is particular useful as this feature allows the easy access to the UEFI BIOS utility of the board without having to resort to excessive keyboard strokes. If the system is on standby mode, ASUS DirectKey feature allows the user to access the BIOS at the touch of a button during system boot-up.
In order to improve system stability, power efficiency as well as enhancement to the overclocking capabilities of these boards, ASUS has introduced its DIGI+ Power Control for the first time on boards featuring AMD chipsets. With separate digital power controllers for the CPU and DRAM, users can look forward to more refined power tweaking options for their systems based on these boards. The Sabertooth 990FX R2 is another board to join such ranks.
Targeted at the gaming community is the new ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z that is an updated version of its predecessor, the ASUS Crosshair V Formula. We encountered the latter motherboard when we previewed the AMD FX-8150 processor in October last year. Currently, we do have any pictures of the new Crosshair V Formula-Z but it is described to have upgraded SupremeFX III onboard audio, boasting Red Line shielding technology as well as a metallic EMI cover to protect against any electrical interference "...for cleaner sound quality...". The board's exclusive GameFirst II now features the all-new EZ mode, to allow gamers to prioritize their gaming traffic.
Another improved feature is the Remote GO!, based on the ASUS Wi-Fi GO! technology. Users can install an application on their supported smartphones and portable devices for remote control of their systems!
For less demanding gamers, the ASUS M5A97 R2.0 makes an ideal upgrade option for AM3+ CPUs owners and supporters. It has the same exciting new features as the higher-end boards above; however, it has only official support for AMD CrossFireX multi-GPU setup. It is even capable of handling quad-GPU AMD CrossFireX configuration.
AMD has refreshed the F1A75-M Pro R2.0 and F1A55 R2.0 motherboard series in anticipation of the launch of Windows 8. These motherboards support the AMD Socket FM1 processors. ASUS said that the F1A75-M Pro R2.0 "...is equipped with Dual Intelligent Processors 2, featuring TPU and EPU performance and energy optimization controllers alongside Digi+ VRM digital power delivery, which offers precision voltage adjustments for customized power based on APU characteristics while creating more overclocking headroom." Its additional features include the following:-
