Archos looks to become a major player in the connected home by opening up its Smart Home system

Device-maker Archos has been in the connected home space for quite a while, with a slew of products ranging from virtual reality glasses to music lights and blood pressure monitors, but now they’re opening up their Smart Home system to be compatible with other brands, so you can easily link up all your connected home accessories.

433MHz wireless technology provides a stable connection between your devices and the Archos Smart Home gateway, and a new “Learn & Control” feature allows you to connect and control your connected home accessories via the Archos Smart Home App on your smart device – even if they’re from different makers – thus allowing you a single control point for your entire home.

Also, to allow for greater integration between connected devices, social networks, and other apps, Archos has opened its tablet and Smart Home application to IFTTT, allowing anyone to create a simple “If This, Then That” relationship between their devices and online tools. For example, turning on a light via your twitter account, or turning on the air-conditioning when you get home.

The best part is that Archos is trying to keep the connected home affordable and easy to use, pricing their Archos Smart Home Tablet Gateway from $99.99.
