Apple's share of global phone profits increases to 94% in Q3 2015
Despite gloomy reports of a highly saturated smartphone market, Apple managed to increase its share of the global phone profits in Q3 2015.
According to the latest report from market research firm Canaccord Genuity, Apple's share of the global phone profits in Q3 2015 stands at 94% which is a 2% increase from the previous quarter and up from 85% in the same quarter a year ago! It is even more impressive if you take into account that Apple ranked second in total smartphone volume shipments with an estimated 48 million units (14.5%).
On the other hand, Samsung reportedly took 11% of the industry's profits even though it shipped 81 million units. Other phone makers such as HTC and Sony suffered losses as they struggled to compete in the high-end market segment.
Canaccord estimates the average selling price of the iPhone to be US$670 with 37% operating margin while Samsung's average selling price of phone was just US$180. Apple is expected to maintain its momentum as it foresees more Android users switching to the iPhone in the coming quarters.
