Apple's iPhone suppliers TSMC and Foxconn enjoy record breaking December revenues

Strong sales of Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones have propelled TSMC and Foxconn - Apple's main suppliers for its smartphones - to record breaking revenue figures for December.

According to regulatory filings with the Taiwan Stock Exchange, TSMC and Foxconn enjoyed revenues of US$2.17 billion and US$16.24 billion respectively. For TSMC, this is a whopping 40% increase year-over-year.

And according to early estimates, some analysts believe that Apple could have sold as many as 69 million iPhones in the December quarter, which would represent an increase of 18 million units or 35% year-over-year.

TSMC is the main manufacturer of Apple's A8 processors, whereas Foxconn has been a longtime supplier to Apple and is reported to have dedicated over 500,000 workers to its iPhone 6 lines alone. Foxconn is also said to be investing some US$2.6 billion into a new display factory that will serve Apple exclusively.

Moving forward, while Foxconn continues to be enjoy its position as one of Apple's main supplier, Apple has recently reported to be favoring Samsung for its new A9 processors.
