Apple's Internal Slides Explain Why the Company Needs a Bigger iPhone

Numerous rumors have indicated that Apple is planning on a larger iPhone, and just last week, we reported of alleged iPhone 6 prototypes being leaked. Also, an earlier rumor this year suggested that the new iPhone will have a 5.25-inch display.

These rumors now seem increasingly plausible following internal slides that were revealed during the ongoing Apple vs. Samsung trial. According to these slides, Apple is clearly aware that consumers are demanding a device with a larger display and that growth of smartphones in the past years came either from devices that cost under US$300 or had a display larger than 4-inches. In fact, the market for devices with 4-inch displays or smaller that cost above US$300 is declining, and at an alarming rate.

Judging from these slides, there are two paths Apple can take. First, is to reduce the price of its iPhones to below US$300; second, produce an iPhone with a larger display. Considering how Apple conducts its business, it is highly unlikely that the new iPhone will come at below US$300, leading us to believe that, once again, Apple will increase the display size of its smartphone. Also plausible is that once the new iPhone is released, Apple will drop the price of its older iPhones to below US$300.
