Apple's HomePod will not arrive in time for Christmas this year

Consumers who have been eyeing the Apple HomePod speaker have to wait a little longer for its availability. In its statement to The Verge, Apple said that the release of the HomePod speaker is delayed until 2018.

Apple - “We can't wait for people to experience HomePod, Apple's breakthrough wireless speaker for the home, but we need a little more time before it's ready for our customers. We'll start shipping in the U.S, U.K and Australia in early 2018".

The HomePod speaker was announced at WWDC 2017 in June and had an initial shipping schedule in December. It is one of the most powerful wireless speaker in the market with an A8 processor and has a custom array of seven beam-forming tweeters. It has a retail price of US$349 (~S$482). The delay in the availability of the HomePod means that Apple has surrendered the smart speaker market to its competitors, Amazon and Google.
