Apple Working on 12-inch iPad Pro Models with Higher Resolution Displays?
Ever since Apple announced the 9.7-inch iPad Air in October, there have been rumors and reports of an iPad Pro model in the works.
According to International Business Times (IBT), its sources confirm that the sixth generation iPad is named the iPad Pro. The iPad Pro is said to combine the capabilities of the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro in a tablet form factor.
Quoting information from reports, IBT said that the iPad Pro will sport a 12.9-inch display which will come in two resolutions - 2K (QHD) and 4K (UHD). The two models will be released in April and October 2014 respectively.
Aside from rumors of larger iPads, there are also reports on bigger iPhones coming next year. Bloomberg claimed in November that Apple is releasing two iPhone models - a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch model - in the second half of 2014.
Increasing the display size and resolution not only poses a hardware challenge, it also poses a software problem for Apple as it needs to figure out how its apps and user interface will be scaled.
