Apple's first retail store in Southeast Asia is likely to open next month!

Sources told CNBC that consumers in Singapore can expect the Apple Store to open in May. A worker whom CNBC spoke to confidently stated that the Apple Store would open on 22 May. Prior to the publication of the news, CNBC was unable to get a confirmation from Apple via email or calls.

The Apple Store in Singapore was initially believed to open in November 2016 close to a year after Pure Fitness and other tenants at Knightsbridge returned their spaces to the landlord in December 2015.

The delay was apparently due to a stop-work order issued by the Ministry of Manpower "for unsafe conditions relating to work at height, traffic management, scaffolding, electrical installation and lifting operations that were observed during an inspection at the worksite."There are also speculation that Apple had a conflict with the Grand Royal Orchard Singapore Hotel over logistical and infrastructure issues related to the construction works.

Elaine Heng, the assistant director of marketing communications at the Park Hotel Group, declined to comment on the matter. Katrina Tran, Apple's head of corporate communications for Southeast Asia and India, shot down the rumors of the delay and conflict. She added that Apple had never given a specific date for the opening and everything was proceeding as planned.
