The launch of the 4-inch iPhone SE is unlikely to help Apple cushion its first year-over-year decline in sales for the iPhone.

According to DigiTimes, industry sources claim that the target shipment for the iPhone SE in Q2 2016 is about four to five million units. While the figure seems decent, it is highly likely that the iPhone SE will not be able to offset the fall in shipments for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

Chip orders from Apple are said to be relatively slow this quarter compared to the same period in previous years. The launch of the iPhone SE and 9.7-inch iPad Pros will help boost the overall chip orders in Q2 to be slightly higher than Q1. More than 3.4 million customers in China reportedly pre-ordered the iPhone SE while four million units of the 9.7-inch iPad Pros are estimated to be shipped in the first half of 2016.

Apple is only expected to increase its chip orders in Q3 when the iPhone 7 and a new generation of MacBooks are announced.
