Apple said to have delayed launch of new iPads to second half of the year

If you're looking to upgrade or purchase a new iPad in March, the wait could be longer this year.

Sources from the upstream supply chain told DigiTimes that Apple is still considering the iPad lineup for 2017. As a result, the iPad refresh could be delayed to the second half of the year. An earlier rumor also suggests that poor yield rates of 10nm chips may affect the launch of the new iPads.

Apple is rumored to be replacing the 9.7-inch lineup with a 10.5-inch model. A new 9.7-inch iPad may be introduced as an entry-level option for the education market. The new 12.9-inch iPad Pro and 10.5-inch iPad model are expected to be powered by the upcoming A10X processors.

In August 2016, KGI securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that Apple would unveil three iPad models - 12.9-inch, 10.5-inch and 9.7-inch - later this year. Japanese site Macotakara claimed in October that the new tablet size is 10.1-inches and the iPad mini 4 would be replaced by a 7.9-inch iPad Pro. It also added that the new iPads are bezel-less and will ditch the physical home button
