Apple’s iPads are now cheaper than before
Apple’s iPads are now cheaper than before

Well, it wasn’t mentioned at last night’s iPhone 7 (our review here) and Apple Watch series 2 event, but Apple has dropped the prices on its higher-end iPad Pros and introduced a 256GB option. Apple has also doubled the storage of the iPads (iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4, iPad mini 2) while keeping their prices mostly the same.
This is the second time that the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 2 have dropped in price. Here are the new prices, compared to the previous ones.

Keep in mind that the iPad Air 2 is not last year’s model, it’s actually the iPad from 2014, as Apple skipped an iPad Air refresh in 2015.
Seeing that there haven’t been any new iPads announced this year (excepting the 9.7” iPad Pro, which was released earlier this year), the two-year old iPad Air 2 might be on its way out for a new iPad Air 3, and the price drop might be to clear existing stock. Might.

The iPad mini 4 is the current mini flagship, but since it was released in 2015, it might also be on the way out for a new mini 5. Maybe.
Interesting enough, with the prices slashed the iPad mini 4 is now the same price as the iPad Air 2 with the same storage. Both iPads are nearly identical, the two key differences are the screen size (9.7” versus 7.9”), and that the iPad Air 2 has a faster A8X processor while the iPad mini 4 has the older A8 chip.

While the iPad mini 2 is the most affordable iPad at S$398 for the 32GB Wi-Fi version, we really can’t recommend it as it’s now running on three year-old specs. Like the iPad Air 2, this is the second time its price has dropped.
