Apple rumored to ditch plans for on-screen Touch ID in iPhone 8
The on-screen Touch ID has been one of the most anticipated features rumored to debut on the iPhone 8, but KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes it would not be coming to the new iPhone this year.
In his latest investor note, Kuo claims that Apple has "canceled" plans to introduce the on-screen Touch ID in this year's iPhone. This is his second report on Apple ditching plans for the on-screen Touch ID; Kuo revealed in July that the iPhone 8 would not come with Touch ID fingerprint sensor of any kind.
Kuo's latest investor note corroborates recent reports of Apple implementing Face ID on the iPhone 8 and HomePod's firmware revealing no concrete evidence of an on-screen Touch ID. Bloomberg also reported last month that Apple is testing 3D face scanning on the next iPhone and it might replace the physical Touch ID.
In a separate leak, Chinese leakster @富士康小弟 posted a photo of the purported iPhone 8 taken from a Foxconn factory. The iPhone 8 appears to have a rear-mounted Touch ID just below the Apple logo. Since the authenticity of the photo and reliability of the source are not verified, there is a possibility that we are looking at a fake iPhone model.
