It has been some time since we last heard about the Apple Car and German publication Frankfurter Allgemeine has some new updates.

The publication claims in a report that Apple is partnering with Austrian-based automotive manufacturer Magna to build the Apple Car. In addition, Apple is said to have established a "secret lab" in Berlin with a small cross-disciplinary team of 15 to 20 engineers from various German car companies.

In case you don't know, Magna is known to build limited edition models for major car brands such as BMW and Mini. The firm is expected to build many BMW vehicles over the next 6 to 7 years. The Apple Car project recently had a setback with the departure of its team leader Steve Zadesky who worked in Apple for 16 years.

Apple is believed to be gearing up for an electric car launch in the coming years with the registration of three top-level domain names. Apple-leased vehicles with all sorts of cameras and sensors were also spotted roaming the streets of North California last year.

While the Apple Car project is not official, it has caught the attention of many car makers in the industry. Don Butler, Executive Director for Connected Vehicles and Services at Ford shared that he believes Apple has what it takes to succeed in the automobile industry despite a lack of experience and expertise.
