Apple predicted to sell over 45 million watches in 2019

Market intelligence firm IDC has just made the bold prediction that sales of Apple Watch will grow significantly over the next few years.

Although Apple hasn't revealed exact sales figures of its Apple Watch, analysts predict that Apple could have sold as much as 7 million units since launch. Already, analysts have worked out that sales of the Apple Watch exceeded US$1 billion in July earlier this year.

According to IDC, it predicts that sales of the Apple Watch will exceed 45 million units in 2019. Up from the estimated 13 million of this year. This means a compound annual growth rate of 36.5%

Additionally, it also says that Apple will continue to be the market leader in this category and expects Apple to have a 51.1% market share in 2019. It predicts that Android Wear will have a smaller market share of 38.8%.

Interestingly, an analyst at Creative Strategies has even bolder predictions, and thinks that sales will hit 100 million units by 2017.

Will the Apple Watch be that successful? Only time can tell. Now, isn't that ironic?
