Apple Patents Design for Flexible Batteries
A new Apple patent has just surfaced that details the creation of a flexible battery. This suggests that the company is exploring solutions for developing products which would require the batteries to take on unusual shape, further fueling rumors of an Apple smartwatch.
The patent, which was filed in December of 2011, covers a flexible battery pack that consists of several different cells connected through a laminate layer, designed to "allow the battery to be shaped to fit a form factor of the electronic device."
Reports also say that such as isolated cell design have other benefits. For example, being isolated, the battery pack would be more reliable as opposed to multiple-connected cells which tend to fail together at once due to moisture and dust.
Of course, this flexible battery solution is not limited to use in a wrist watch and could also be used in other Apple products such as its iPhones, iPads, iPods and MacBooks.
