Apple offers free repairs of 42mm Apple Watch Series 2 with swollen batteries
The Apple Watch Series 2 models seem to suffer from the same problem as the 1st generation models - swollen batteries, and Apple is now offering free repairs for Series 2 models that cannot be powered on or have swollen batteries.
An internal document detailing the new service policy was distributed to Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers in the U.S, Canada, Mexico and Europe. It is expected to be a worldwide initiative. The document was subsequently obtained by MacRumors.
"Apple will service eligible devices free of charge," according to the document, numbered SN4534 in Apple's internal GSX portal. "Apple will authorize coverage for eligible devices for three years after the original date of purchase."
According to the document, any 42mm Apple Watch Series 2 model (Sport, Edition, Hermès, and Nike+) is eligible for the free repair after a visual-mechanical inspection.
In July 2017, Apple reportedly extended the service coverage of 1st generation Apple Watches with detached covers to three years. The company has determined that some 1st-gen Apple Watches may have their back covers separate from the case under certain conditions.
