Remember the report by Mixpanel's live tracking site that iOS 9 hit 19% adoption rate in just 48 hours? Well, the actual statistics are even higher than expected.

In a press release, Apple announced that more than 50% of devices are already running on iOS 9 as measured by the App Store on 19th September which makes it the fastest adoption rate ever in the company's history.

Apple also states that the "customer response to the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus has been incredibly positive". This comes as no surprise since the company said a week earlier that it is on track to hit a new record for the first weekend sales of the iPhones.

Apple - “Customer response to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus has been incredibly positive, we can't wait to get our most advanced iPhones ever into customers’ hands starting this Friday,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iOS 9 is also off to an amazing start, on pace to be downloaded by more users than any other software release in Apple’s history.”

The record-breaking adoption rate of iOS 9 can be attributed to the strong sales of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in the previous quarters and over one billion iOS devices shipped to date. The iOS 9 update is slimmer compared to iOS 8 at 1.3GB and comes with several new features such as a new Notes app and multitasking support. Check out the 9 things you should try on the new iOS 9 and why ad-blocking on iOS 9 is a double-edged sword.
