Bloomberg has released more information on the 2018 iPhone lineup which include the possibility of a dual-SIM model for some markets.

According to its sources, Apple is considering to offer a dual-SIM model of the 6.5-inch OLED iPhone in some markets. The dual-SIM feature is still under review and Apple might substitute it with eSIM technology, which allows the iPhone to connect to multiple networks without the need for a removable SIM card. Adoption of eSIM technology for phones has been stalled as telcos around the world are reluctant to support it.

The sources also added that the 6.5-inch OLED iPhone will be about the same size as the 5.5-inch iPhone 8 Plus due to the edge-to-edge design. The increased screen size is likely to support split-screen modes for certain apps. Some prototypes in testing have screen resolutions of 1,242 x 2,688 pixels, which match the pixel density of the iPhone X.

Apple is believed to be releasing three new iPhone models this year to boost sales after the iPhone X missed expectations. Its new lineup aims to offer a model for every consumer and it could lead to a super-cycle where more than 10% of the existing iPhone customers upgrade to a new handset. Another strategy to increase sales is bringing back the gold color option for the OLED iPhone models.
