Apple may release a video sharing and editing app in 2017
With social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat getting more popular among consumers, Apple is finding ways to integrate these platforms within its ecosystem and remain relevant.
According to Bloomberg, Apple is in the early stages of developing a video sharing and editing app which functions like Instagram and Snapchat. The interface is said to be designed for one-handed operation and videos can be taken, edited and uploaded in less than one minute. One of the prototype designs has a square-like frame for taking videos like Instagram.
Bloomberg - "The goal behind the project’s development is to offer simple video editing with tools that appeal to the generation of users growing up with Snapchat and Instagram, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans are private."
Apple is reportedly aiming for a launch in 2017 although the project can be killed midway if it cannot meet the expectations and deadline. The team is currently considering the list of intended features for the app. At the moment, Apple may want it to be a standalone app although it is possible to integrate the functionality with the camera app of the iPhone.
In addition, Apple also tested several social-related features for the iPhone and iPad over the past 12 months. They may be released in the near future. The increasing focus on software services such as the App Store and iCloud can potentially buffer the slowing sales of Apple's hardware business and increase revenue.
