Apple just trademarked a retro-style '8' logo

We've seen lots of rumors suggesting that next year's 10th anniversary iPhone will be a major overhaul for Apple. If that's true, Apple is likely to skip the iPhone 7s and go straight to the 8. And what do you know, Apple just trademarked a retro-style 8 logo. Coincidence?

According to Patently Apple, two trademarks were filed, originally in Jamaica in July, but now this week also in Hong Kong.  The first trademark was filed under International Class 9, which apparently covers just about everything ranging from computers and mobile telephones to "electrically heated socks".

The second filing is under International Class 45 which covers the following specifics: (A) "Personal concierge services for others comprising making requested personal arrangements and reservations and providing customer-specific information to meet individual needs, rendered online; online social networking services; providing a social networking website for entertainment purposes; (B) personal and social services rendered by others to meet the needs of individuals; providing social networking services; providing concierge services."

The retro rainbow 8 logo seems to be a reference Apple's earlier rainbow logo (seen below), and would be appropriate for a celebration of the 10th anniversary of the iPhone.
