From the numerous leaks so far, it seems that Apple is packing a lot of new technology into its upcoming iPhone 7 lineup.

According to Fast Company, a source with knowledge of Apple's plans corroborates many earlier reports on the iPhone 7 such as the removal of the 3.5mm audio jack, the use of the Lightning port and waterproofing feature.

Apple is said to be working with audio chip partner Cirrus Logic to modify its audio chipset in the iPhone to work with the Lightning port. In addition, the audio system in the iPhone 7 will reportedly use a new noise-canceling technology from Wolfson Microelectronics to remove background noise in music playback and phone calls. The source added that Apple is likely to sell a more expensive noise-canceling, Lightning-connected earphones or headphones under its Beats brand separately.

Wireless charging and waterproofing technologies could also be introduced in the iPhone 7. Apparently, Apple had considered to add the former in at least two past iPhone models. While Apple is still working on these two technologies, they may not make it to the final product as the company is known to pull new features from devices late in the development process.

Other rumored specs of the iPhone 7 include a bigger battery and storage capacity for the Plus model
