We know that more than 13 million consumers purchased the Apple iPhone 6s and 6s Plus in the first weekend, but which model is more popular among consumers in the first week of sales? Well, analytics firm Localytics published a report with estimates based on 50 million iOS devices.

According to Localytics, the iPhone 6s is four times more popular than the iPhone 6s Plus with the former attaining 1.5% and the latter hitting a mere 0.4% of all iPhones one week after launch. There are also other major findings:

  • the adoption rate of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus is lower compared to the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in the same period (1.9% vs. 2.7%)
  • reduced price of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus led to an increase in adoption of these models in the past month (an increase of 3.2%)
  • iOS 9 has stronger early adoption rate compared to iOS 8, but pales in comparison with iOS 7
  • iOS 9 is more popular on newer iOS devices with iPhone 6 and 6 Plus adoption at 59%

There is a plausible reason for the iPhone 6s Plus being "less popular" among consumers; analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported last month that the iPhone 6s Plus could face supply shortages due to backlight module production issues at Japanese supplier Minebea. Consumers may want the iPhone 6s Plus, but might have to settle for the iPhone 6s due to supply issues.

We also published a poll on 26th September to gather feedback from our forum members on which iPhone 6s model they purchased. Of the 91 voters, 45.06% chose the iPhone 6s while 54.94% preferred the iPhone 6s Plus. The iPhone 6s (64GB) proved to be the most popular model with 34.07% of voters opting for it.
