Apple iPad 3 Event Confirmed for 7th March 10am PST
This week, the annual Mobile World Congress 2012 has been getting a lot of attention from us. But trust Apple to come in and slightly steal the thunder with the following news: the iPad 3 launch.
Various sites such as The Verge have received the official invitation for an Apple event happening next week, matching earlier news that the iPad 3 launch will be on the first week of March. The invite clearly shows an iPad with the date locked down on a Wednesday and a 7th, which could only mean next Wednesday 7th of March. The event will be held at at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco at 10AM PST, which translates to 2am Singapore time.
Much has been speculated about the specifications of the iPad 3, one of which is the display resolution rumored to be 2048 x 1536, twice the number of pixels found on its predecessors, alongside an 8-megapixel camera loaded on the tapered edges of the new Apple tablet. Till now, there's been no solid news on whether the iPad 3 will be powered by an updated quad-core processor, or the same dual-core processor found on the iPad 2.
Meanwhile, the official invite has gotten sites such as Gizmodo coming up with more speculations, including one that highlights the absence of a home button. This could turn out to be true, when we consider the multi-touch gestures that have been implemented on the first iPad and its successor with the iOS 5 update. Actions such as double tapping the home button to bring up the multi-task bar can be done by swiping upwards with four fingers, while pinching the screen with four fingers will return you to the home screen. If anything, the home button has been rendered redundant with these multi-touch gestures.
For now, we'll just have to sit tight, and wait for the official announcement next Wednesday to confirm the ongoing speculations. In the meantime, you can check out a quick round-up of the recent news surrounding the iPad 3 here.
