In a bid to shore up both OS X's and iOS's defenses, Apple has hired veteran hacker Kristin Paget (formerly known as Chris Paget). Most famously, Kristin was brought on by Microsoft before the launch of Vista to help ensure the OS will be as bug-free as possible. At that point, Microsoft was confident that Vista was good for release. However, Kristin spotted a wealth of bugs, so much so that Microsoft was forced to delay the release of Vista so that she could help fix the bugs.

“We prevented a lot of bugs from shipping on Vista,” Paget said, according to a recording of her talk. “I’m proud of the number of bugs we found and helped get fixed.”

With Kristin, Apple is hoping to get stop hackers from jailbreaking and unlocking its iOS devices. Additionally, it hopes to beef up OS X's anti-malware defenses. Earlier this year, Mac users were rocked by the Flashback trojan, and just days ago, we reported on a new Dockster virus affecting Mac users.
