Apple has a secret lab in Taiwan to develop new display technologies
Future devices from Apple could sport new and better display panels which are developed in Taiwan.
According to Bloomberg, Apple opened a secret laboratory in northern Taiwan in April where it is developing new display technologies. There is reportedly a team of at least 50 engineers and other workers researching and developing new display panels. Apparently, Apple is looking to develop more advanced versions of the LCD panels and is interested to adopt OLED panels.
It is said that this move could help Apple reduce its reliance on technology developed by suppliers such as Japan Display, LG Display, Samsung and Sharp. The iPhone maker is still looking to recruit more engineers to work at the secret facility.
Samsung recently renewed talks with Apple to supply OLED panels for use in its iPhones. The first iPhones sporting OLED displays are expected to come in 2018.
