Apple finalizing deal with LG and Samsung to supply OLEDs for the iPhone

Another report surfaces on the possibility of Apple switching away from the use of LCDs to OLEDs for its iPhones.

According to the Electronic Times, anonymous industry sources claim that Apple is finalizing a deal with LG and Samsung to supply OLEDs for the iPhone. Both Korean companies are expected to pump in about US$12.8 billion over the next three years to build facilities and equipment.

In June this year, Business Korea stated that major Korean display manufacturers were pitching to Apple to adopt flexible OLED display panels for its iPhone lineup. Electronic Times followed up with a report in October that Samsung was providing OLED panels to Apple for testing. Just last month, a high-ranking industry executive told The Korea Times that the first iPhones sporting OLED displays will debut in 2018.
