Apple files patent for ring-style wearable with display, cameras and sensors
When Tim Cook announced the Apple Watch, he mentioned the smartwatch represented the next chapter in Apple's story and would redefine what people expect from its category. Little did we know that Apple may be working on a ring-style wearable that can work with other larger devices.
According to Apple Insider, the patent application published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office describes the ring-style wearable as a mini computer that wraps around the user's finger. The ring-style wearable can be operated with the thumb to control several products such as the Apple TV's onscreen interface or the iPhone.
Like the Apple Watch, it will have an onboard chipset, multiple input and output components (touch pad and touch screen measuring between 1 to 5 cm), and a mix of voice and gesture input. It is also paired to a device via any wireless communication standard such as Wi-Fi, cellular, Bluetooth and NFC. Different types of materials can be used to construct the chassis including precious metals (gold and platinum) and stretchable materials like silicone.
Do note that a patent application may not mean that Apple is actually going ahead to make a product like this. However, it makes us wonder what other futuristic devies are being worked on or developed in Apple's secret labs.
