Apple Celebrates 5 Years of the App Store
To celebrate the Apple App Store's fifth anniversary, Apple is making five "landmark" apps and five games free for a limited period of time. The App Store was launched on 10 July 2008 in 62 countries and had just 500 apps. Over 10 million apps were downloaded in its first weekend, and by 9 September that year, the number of downloads exceeded 100 million. Fast forward to today, over 50 billion apps have been downloaded and the App Store is now home to 900,000 apps.
