Apple adds new features to Apple TV

Apple unveiled some new features that will be coming to Apple TV at WWDC 2016 today, including a revamped iPhone remote app, which lets you navigate your Apple TV from your phone, a single sign-in option, and better integration between iOS and tvOS.

The best new feature for tvOS is Single Sign-on, which is a major quality of life improvement for anyone with lots of apps on their Apple TV. Single Sign-on will let you enter your login credentials just once to login to all of your different accounts, from Hulu to Netflix via one app. Single Sign-on will also be coming to iOS at a later date.

Another new feature is called Live Tune-In, which lets you jump directly into live streams of select apps using Siri. Unfortunately, not many apps were mentioned specifically but we know ESPN and Disney will be compatible. To use Live Tune-In, all you have to do is ask Siri, so for example, for ESPN you would say 'Watch ESPN live'.

Siri herself also got some upgrades. For example, you can now use her to search for content directly on YouTube.

Other new tvOS features include a dark mode that gets rid of the bright app grid background, and automatic download of apps between iOS and tvOS. So if you have an app or game on your iPhone and there's a tvOS version available, it will now be automatically installed on your Apple TV too.

The developer preview of tvOS is available today, with the public version coming later this fall.
