Aorus shows off their new hardcore gaming notebooks at CES 2016
With CES 2016 in full swing, notebook manufacturers are gleefully showing off what they have in store for the coming year. We've taken a look at what Gigabyte is offering earlier, and this time, it's Aorus' turn in the spotlight. While Aorus doesn't have as many new machines are Gigabyte, what they lack in numbers, they make up for in sheer horsepower.
Aorus X5 v5
The Aorus X5 is one of the first machines Aorus showed off at the show. It's a slim 22.9mm thin, 15.6-inch machine with an Intel Core i7 Skylake processor, dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M GPUs, DDR4 RAM, dual SSD and HDD storage. It also comes with an NVIDIA G-Sync capable monitor.
There's also a limited edition of the Aorus X5 V5, which Aorus dubs the 2016 Limited Edition X5. It features a camouflage look instead of the matte black finish the series is known for.
Aorus X5S V5
While similar in looks to the Aorus X5 V5, the Aorus X5S V5 is a single GPU machine. It still features the same slim design of the Aorus X5 V5 but ups the ante with a 4K display, as well as an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M GPU on top of the Intel Core i7 Skylake processor, DDR4 RAM and dual storage options the line has.
Aorus X7 Pro V5
The Aorus X7 Pro series returns for a new upgrade. The 17.3-inch machine now comes with a Full HD IPS display, new Intel Core i7 Skylake processor, dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M GPUs, DDR4 RAM and dual storage options. It also includes an NVIDIA G-Sync capable monitor. At just 23.9mm, thin, the Aorus X7 Pro V5 is only a bit thicker then the 15-inch Aorus X5 V5, an impressive feat indeed.
Aorus X3 Plus V5
Finally, if small but powerful gaming machines are your thing, the Aorus X3 Plus V5 fits the bill nicely. The 13-inch gaming notebook comes with a QHD+ (3200 x1800 pixels) display, an Intel Core i7-6700HQ (2.6Ghz, 6MB smart cache) Skylake processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M (6GB VRAM) GPU, DDR4 RAM and dual storage options.
All of the new V5 versions of Aorus' laptops will now come with exclusive new features, such as the new Aorus Fusion keyboard and Aorus new sound suite called Aorus Audio, which Aorus claims will deliver sound profiles specificially tailored to different types of music and games. Aorus Fusion on the other hand, is more visceral as it's what Aorus calls their new per-key backlighting setup. Basically, each key on the keyboard has its own backlight. We've seen this in gaming keyboards, such as the Logitech G910 Orion Spark and G310 Atlas Dawn, but never in gaming notebooks before.
