Android Wear fights back with Wi-Fi support and gesture controls in next update
One of the key features of the Apple Watch is that it will connect to your iPhone via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. What this means is that you can continue to get notifications from your phone even if you were out of Bluetooth range. It's a great feature considering the range of Bluetooth is only around 10 meters.
Google is keen to implement this feature on their Android Wear platform. According to "a source knowledgeable with Android Wear's product road map", since most Android Wear watches already have Wi-Fi capabilities, Google will enable Wi-Fi support for Android Wear in the next software update.
Additionally, the source also said that Google plans to implement gesture controls as well as some other UI tweaks to improve user experience. Specifically, the update will allow users to flick their wrists to scroll through notifications and Google Cards, as opposed to having to use the other hand to swipe through them using the screen.
