Android Tablets Eroding iPad's Lead in Market Share

Apple is gradually losing its lead in the tablet race as competition heats up with Android tablets gaining more market share.

According to the latest report by market research company Strategy Analytics, Apple iPads' global market share fell from a whopping 94% to 61.3% in Q2 of 2011. Android tablets on the other hand, increased its market presence from a mere 2.9% to 30% over the same period of time. Research in Motion's BlackBerry PlayBook and Windows-powered tablets captured 3.3% and 4.6% of the market respectively.

It is not surprising to see a rapid growth of Android's presence in the tablet scene. This situation reminds us of how Android is the leading smartphone OS in the U.S at the moment despite coming into the scene barely three years ago. We are very interested to see how the tablet war play out in the coming months, especially with speculation of an Amazon tablet launching in October.
