Rubin started Essential Products after leaving Google in 2014, with the company focused on tablets, smartphones and smarthome IoT devices. Essential's flagship phone will apparently serve as the foundation for a lineup of connected products. Based on the image Rubin shared, the phone appears to have a bezel-less design similar in style to the Xiaomi Mi Mix, with its edge-to-edge 6.4-inch display. Rubin is also apparently working on a proprietary version of Apple's 3D Touch display.
Essential Products' flagship smartphone is expected to be unveiled in mid-2017.
