AMD Rumored to be Teaming Up with Toshiba to Produce SSDs

According to rumors, AMD is said to be working with Toshiba on producing on its own of SSDs. Toshiba, of course, recently purchased OCZ's SSD business in a deal that was completed early this year.

The drive will most probably be powered by OCZ's Indilinx Barefoot controller and will naturally use Toshiba's new 19nm Toggle-Mode NAND. However, rumors are suggesting that AMD is not aiming for performance and therefore will not compete against the likes of Samsung or Intel.

Instead, AMD is trying instead to offer more value in the form of a branded bundle. The bundle is likely to consist of an AMD processor, motherboard, AMD memory and now, AMD storage. AMD is expected to launch the drives in 120GB and 240GB capacities.
