AMD Radeon HD 7000 Series GPUs Currently Lack Support for DirectX 11.2

According to AMD, the current crop of AMD Radeon HD 7000 series GPUs lack support for DirectX 11.2 application programming interface (API). This is apparently due to a change in the final specification of the programming framework, which wasn't anticipated by AMD.

AMD engineer Laylah Mah told German magazine c't Magazin that the current AMD HD 7000 and 8000 series GPUs lack support for the DirectX 11.2 API at the software or driver level. She said the affected hardware is capable of supporting DirectX 11.2, pending updates to their drivers.

At the moment, the AMD Radeon 8000 series GPUs are featured on some devices like the Samsung Series 7 Ultrabooks. The new AMD Kabini Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) also features the same series of integrated GPUs. They are derived from the current Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture that was first introduced with the launch of the AMD HD 7900 series GPUs. The DirectX 11.2 API is made exclusively to Windows 8.1 and Xbox One. It has introduced some new features that are important for game developers that include DirectX tiled resources and Direct3D low-latency presentation. For more details on the new feature of DirectX 11.2, do head over here.
