AMD Launches Kaveri APUs Aimed at Business-Minded Users
AMD has released Kaveri SoCs (systems on chip) that are targeted at corporate users. Made up of three new SKUs, the new AMD Pro A-Series SoCs will support “comprehensive IT security, and management tools.” The AMD Pro APUs are energy-efficient, with thermal power design rates of 17- to 19W.
Processor Model |
Compute Cores (CPU + GPU) | Clock Speed | L2 Cache | GPU Frequency (Max) | Max TDP (W) |
A10 Pro-7350B (with Radeon R6 Graphics) | 10 (4 CPU + 6 GPU) | 2.1GHz (3.3 GHz Max Turbo Frequency) |
4MB | 533GHz | 19 |
A8 Pro-7150B (with Radeon R5 Graphics) | 10 (4 CPU + 6 GPU) | 1.9GHz (3.0 GHz Max Turbo Frequency) |
4MB | 533GHz | 19 |
A8 Pro-7050B (with Radeon R4 Graphics) | 5 (2 CPU + 3 GPU) | 2.2GHz (3.0 GHz Max Turbo Frequency) |
1MB | 533GHz | 17 |
The A10 Pro-7350B is the top-end chip of the current series. It sports four CPU cores, and six GPU cores that make up its on-die Radeon R6 graphics engine. Its CPU cores have a base clock of 2.1GHz, and a turbo clock speed of 3.3GHz. As for its graphics compute capabilities, its Radeon R6 engine is rated with a maximum clock speed of 533MHz. Next in line is the A8 Pro-7150B with Radeon R5 graphics. Although it has the same number of Compute cores as the A10 Pro-7350B APU, its four CPU cores have lower clock speeds, so as its Radeon R5 graphics cores.
Lastly, the A8 Pro-7050B has half the number of Compute cores as the rest, which stands at five. They consist of a pair of CPU cores, and 3 GPU cores that make up its Radeon R5 graphics engine. The last APU sips power, with a low TDP rating of only 17W. All APUs have support for DDR3-1600 memory modules and DirectX 11.2 API; however, they lack support for PCIe Gen 3.0 as the APUs have only PCIe 2.0 controllers onboard. The Kaveri APU was first launched in January this year, and this current crop of AMD Pro A-Series APUs can be found in certain HP products, like the HP Elite 700 Series.
