The official prices for socketed AMD Kabini desktop APUs have been released by the company. This new series is made up of the Sempron and Athlon APUs that are supported on the AM1 platform.

The APUs are of the Socket FS1b package, and they are based on the Jaguar microarchitecture for its processor cores, coupled with the Radeon R3 graphics engine. The same CPU architecture is also found at the core of the Microsoft Xbox One and Sony PlayStation 4.

The cheapest of the lot is actually the dual-core Sempron 2650 APU that is priced at US$34. Besides being marketed as a low-cost computing platform, AMD also touts the advantage of being able to upgrade the socketed AM1 platform by popping in future releases of the desktop Kabini APU. We are also expecting a slew of AM1 motherboards releases, and it appears Gigabyte was the first to announce their GA-AM1M-S2H and GA-AM1M-S2P boards; however, the earliest Kabini-based boards we had seen were actually based on the A6-5200, which is an A-series APU meant for notebooks.
