AMD FX-9370 and FX-9590 Processors Available for Sale in US

AMD FX-9370 and FX-9590 Processors Available for Sale in US

CPU World has reported the availability of the AMD FX-9370 and FX-9590 CPUs in the United States. The eight-core AMD FX-9590 is able to reach a clock speed of 5GHz due to its Turbo Core feature. However, it is reported that both processors have an extreme high thermal design power (TDP) of 220W!

Both processors were said to be listed on the online store of TigerDirect.com, but the more powerful AMD FX-9590 appeared to be out-of-stock now. The AMD FX-9370 CPU is still available for US$353.34, while the AMD FX-9590 is featured in a high-end desktop PC that costs US$2,637.36. According to CPU World, the specifications of the new AMD FX-9000 series processors are as follows:-

AMD FX-9000 Processors' Specifications in Brief
Processor Model Clock Speed L2 Cache L3 Cache Socket Max TDP (W)
AMD FX-9590 4.7GHz (5.0GHz Turbo Core) 4 x 2MB 8MB AM3+ ~220
AMD FX-9370 4.4GHz (4.7GHz Turbo Core)

One of the major disadvantages of the new AMD FX processors is their high TDP of 220W. This will mean high power requirements in order to operate the rigs that feature these CPUs. At the same time, the cooling requirements will be more stringent in order to reduce the risk of overheating. For comparison, the TDP of the current AMD FX-8350 processor is only 125W.

However, according to one of our forum members, MacClipper, who has posted some benchmark results of the AMD FX-9590, the measured power consumption levels of the processor were actually not as high. In real world application testing, its power consumption level hovered in the range of 154- to 172W. However, MacClipper pointed out the lower power consumption figures could be due some factors that are pertinent to his test rig. Some members said the high TDP number reported could be a promotional stunt by AMD to raise some eyebrows. For more information, do check out MacClipper's thread here.
