AMD Announces New 12- and 16-Core Opteron 6300 Series Processors

AMD has announced the immediate availability of two new Opteron 6300 series processors. They are the 12-core 6338P and the 16-core 6370P chips, based on the Piledriver 32nm microarchitecture. According to AMD, these Socket G34 chips are optimized to deliver improved performance per-watt for hardware virtualization.

The specifications of the new Opteron 6300 series processors are tabulated in the figure below. Since they are software compatible with existing Opteron 6000 series processors, this means that existing IT services that companies have on-hand will continue to work seamlessly with the new processors.

In addition, the new server CPUs boast of power efficiency, enabling them to integrate into the AMD Open 3.0, Open Compute Platform.
