The Aftershock Impulse is the latest ultra-compact gaming PC vying for a spot on your desk

Aftershock Impulse

Aftershock has announced the Impulse, a tiny gaming PC with enough power to run the latest games at a 4K resolution. The market for small form factor gaming machines is heating up, with the ASUS ROG GR8 II and local player Dreamcore having launched in the last month alone.

But while compact gaming PCs are nothing special today, the Impulse tries to distinguish itself with support for the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, NVIDIA’s latest flagship. That said, the Impulse’s chassis actually comes in two sizes, and you’ll need to opt for the slightly larger one in order to accommodate the latter card.

The bigger chassis measures 377 x 82 x 330mm, and it is currently the only size available at launch (the smaller chassis will be up for pre-order).

There’s also considerable freedom when it comes to tweaking the chassis design, and you can opt for full aluminum or even designs featuring tempered glass. A particularly fun-looking option is what Aftershock is referring to as candy paint, where you can dress the PC with custom automotive paints of your choice.

Here’s an overview of some of the machine’s key specifications:

  • Up to an Intel Core i7-7700 processor (3.60GHz, 8MB L3 cache)
  • Up to 32GB DDR4 2,400MHz RAM
  • Up to an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

It’s worth noting that the weakest graphics card that you’ll be able to get with the Impulse is a GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, which is nothing to turn your nose up at. At the very least, the Impulse will be able to run just about any game at 1080p, even if you have to turn some settings down.

This has the makings of a very high-end machine, and there is even the option to equip it with the blazing fast Samsung 960 Pro PCIe M.2 SSD.

The Aftershock Impulse starts at S$1,528 and will be available to buy at the IT Show 2017.
