Adobe Launches Their First Hardware Alongside New Apps for Creative Cloud

Adobe launches its first ever hardware, the Ink and Slide, alongside new desktop and mobile apps for its Creative Cloud service.

Adobe announces various new software for its Creative Cloud service, including 14 new versions of desktop applications such as Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Illustrator CC, Adobe Dreamweaver CC and Adobe Premiere Pro CC. There are also three new mobile apps for iOS: Adobe Line, Adobe Sketch and Adobe Photoshop Mix. A separate Lightroom app for the iPhone is also available. All mobile apps are free downloads from the iTunes App Store.

According to Adobe, the new mobile apps were developed using a new Adobe Creative SDK and are “professional-grade quality” and will “bring tablets into serious creative workflows for the first time”. Existing apps such as Lightroom for iPad and Adobe Voice are also updated with this release.

These apps are specifically designed for Adobe’s Creative Cloud service, which allows users to access and manage their files and preferred design elements from different computers. The new Creative Cloud app for iOS will now extend this feature to iPhones and iPads.

A complete Creative Cloud individual subscription costs S$66 per month, with large-scale deployment plans available for enterprises, and device-based licensing for education clients. For photography professionals and enthusiasts, there is a new Creative Cloud Photography Plan at S$13 per month that gives you access to Photoshop CC, Lightroom 5 and Lightroom mobile for iPads and iPhones. Existing CC members can download updates to the desktop tools at no extra charge.

To complement these latest software, Adobe has also launched its first hardware -- a digital pen and ruler, named the Ink and Slide respectively. These were initially unveiled in May last year as Mighty and Napoleon at the Adobe Max conference.

The Ink is a fine-tip, pressure-sensitive stylus that pairs with the iPad via Bluetooth, while the Slide is a digital ruler that not only helps you draw perfect straight lines, but perfect circles and French curves as well, among other options. The duo is only compatible with iPads only, namely the fourth generation iPad, the iPad Air, and both generations of the iPad Mini, although you can still use the Ink as a regular stylus on other capacitive touch screen devices.

They are currently available only in the United States at a retail price of US$199, “with plans to release in other countries later in the year” in the words of Adobe.
