ADATA has announced the Premier SP600NS34 drive, an M.2 2242 SATA 6Gbps SSD intended for use in both ultrabooks and desktop PCs. It is more compact than the majority of M.2 drives on the market, which often ship in the slightly larger 2280 (22 x 80mm) form factor.

At just 22 x 42 x 3.5mm, the Premier SP600NS34 is uniquely suited for use in slim and compact ultrabooks. The new M.2 SSD also uses a JMicron JMF670H controller and synchronous MLC NAND, and claims a sequential read speed of up to 550MB/s. Sequential writes are lower, at just 320MB/s for the 256GB model. The drive is also available in a smaller 128GB capacity, which has a sequential write speed of up to 170MB/s.

The Premier SP600NS34 is clearly targeted for use in mobile devices, even though it can be installed in desktop systems as well. It supports DEVSLP (Device Sleep) technology, which helps it consume less power while idle and prolongs the battery life.

In addition, the drive supports the Intel Smart Response caching technology, helping it improve read/write performance on the most frequently used data and applications by making use of a DDR3 DRAM cache buffer. According to ADATA, this effectively doubles the random read/write performance over SSDs without a DRAM cache.

There’s also support for BCH Error Correction Code (ECC) up to 72bits/1KB for better reliability and data protection.

Finally, users will be able to download ADATA’s SSD Toolbox for free, giving them the ability to quickly configure and optimize their drive and perform things like system set-up and firmware updates.

Unfortunately, there's no pricing or availability details yet, but we expect the drive to be available soon.
